Many supply chain professionals learn the basics of contracting on the job. However, to advance in your profession, you’ll need to develop more sophisticated contracting skills. This supply chain management course will provide you with advanced contracting know-how to progress in your career and take on new challenges. In this “beyond the basics” contracting course, you’ll build upon your existing contract knowledge and take it a step further by focusing on how to construct effective customized agreements. For hands-on practice, you’ll review numerous contract clauses and their uses in various situations, including services, software, construction and e-commerce. This course will also address contracts from a global perspective to prepare you with global contracting skills, an in-demand skill set. To ensure this course is applicable to your specific role, you're invited to have copies of your contracts for reference during the program.

Helen M. Pohlig, J.D.

HELEN M. POHLIG, J.D., has been licensed to practice law in Minnesota, Arizona, and Washington, D.C.; She currently lectures and writes on commercial law subjects and provides pro bono representation to a variety of non-profit organizations. She also works part-time doing legal document review.

Helen has extensive experience in government relations and regulation, previously specializing in telecommunications law. She started her legal career as in-house counsel at Republic Telcom Corporation in Bloomington, Minnesota, where she handled both regulatory affairs and general business matters including taxes, contracts, and vendor disputes. Subsequently she served as General Counsel for the Competitive Telecommunications Association and as Managing Director for the National Association of Information Services in Washington, D.C.; She later became a Corporate Vice President at the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), where she was responsible for NAPM's government relations program, international relations, and in-house legal work. For more than 20 years she has taught extensively for the Institute for Supply Management (ISM, formerly NAPM), ISM affiliates and private companies and organizations throughout the U.S. as well as internationally.

Ms. Pohlig graduated with honors from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington, and earned her juris doctor degree with honors from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Who Should Attend:

This supply management contracting course is ideal for experienced purchasing and supply management professionals who want to improve how they analyze and draft various types of contracts. Participants should have fundamental knowledge of business contracts, purchasing law and the UCC prior to attending this course. Please have a calculator.
